Catch the Fire Ministries : Charlatan or Demon possessed? You be the judge about John and Carol Arnott

In Ottawa, Ontario and throughout Canada, from Toronto, Barrie, Montreal , Quebec, Winnipeg, and around the world, South America, Europe and Oceania there is a ministry and church called Catch the Fire. In Ottawa the meetings are held within the Anglican Church building at 20 Young st, Kanata, being sub-leased for Sunday worship hours at 2pm.  The founders are John and Carol Arnott. As  I was invited to attend one of their meetings by the lead pastor of the Ottawa branch Daniel Veenhuis, it soon became apparent to me that I would be getting involved in some scary sect.

Sitting down in the pews on my first visit, everything looked normal at first. Music was perhaps a little too drawn out at first but still a coherent bland of nicely put together music. As the congregation started screaming at times, I felt it was just the run of the mill excitement for the love of Jesus Christ, while some started speaking in “tongues”. After the meeting, we were well received for a lunch time get together with the congregation. A most pleasant lunch. But as time went on, I began looking more intently at what I was getting myself into.

Of course as the week went by, I started to ask more questions to the Lead pastor as to their beliefs and practices. One of those was with regards to the matter of women in the position of pastors within the church. Needless to say, Catch the Fire ministries embraces with open arms the feminist movement. At one time the lead pastor, although he did apologize later for his blatant misstep, referred to gnostic teacher Marianne Meye Thompson to bolster the argument about women in their movement. Prof Thompson has written a book called The God of the Gospel of John, in which she demonstrates her gnostic belief by putting Jesus Christ under the sovereignty of God. She even goes further to state Jesus Christ does not have life in Himself. So with this in mind, I kept digging further until I was lead by Daniel Veenhuis to the founders of Catch the Fire ministries, John and Carol Arnott.

This lead me to a You Tube video in which Carol Arnott is speaking to a large crowd of people. In this video we can clearly see Mrs Arnott shaking “uncontrollably” in a charlatan manner telling her audience how she hears the voice of God in an audible way. I therefore sent an email to the lead Pastor of Catch the Fire ministry in Ottawa to explain Carol Arnotts “visions and dreams”:

Dan
I watched it and will tell you, she is an out and out fraudster. Listen to the video and listen to her claims. They are absolutely unbiblical. She is now telling her audience the Lord is speaking to her in an audible voice , just as I would be speaking to you. She also claims this very important dream…so important in fact , then goes on to tell us how she breaks the law by using her phone at the wheel , being so excited about “recording” her dream, while putting herself and others at risk because the Lord is instructing her. While praying to the Lord not to be caught breaking the law. Then, even further, as she enters the church the Lord tells her to be very rude and tell “that” person to move out of her seat! Fortunately, she doesn’t have to tell them to move because  “those two people in her seat “bolt” out of the seat!
Amazingly, she recounts how she has never heard the voice of the Lord in such a manner as she had that day. But although she rushed to the church , because the Lord told her to rush there. The Lord tells her not to share her dream until a year later.
Now to say that this woman is a flake is an understatement. Look at her on stage and witness the insanity. She now is floating in the church in an apparently vision. Floating to the ceiling of the church, lol. While she starts shaking. Almost in a trance. Possessed actually by demons, is what I would say.
And so Dan. This is what I think you are involved with. A dangerous sect. Disguised as the Lord’s church. But in reality John and Carol are what we would call false teachers.
“ She is a total fraud. She is telling a crowd of people that she is possessed by a spirit talking to her. So powerful that it makes her body shake. That is why Christians are not believed anymore, because of people like her.” Diane – my wife Dan. After watching just a few minutes of the video.
My wife, who is a senior criminal lawyer, compared her to a charlatan, a fortune teller that prays on vulnerable people to make money on false pretense.
“So My hand will be against the prophets who see false visions and utter lying divinations They will have no place in the council of My people, nor will they be written down in the register of the house of Israel, nor will they enter the land of Israel, that you may know that I am the Lord GOD. Ezekiel 13:9

Let no one keep defrauding you of your prize by delighting in self-abasement and the worship of the angels, taking his stand on visions he has seen, inflated without cause by his fleshly mind, Colossians 2:18

Be warned people. We live in a time of false teachers and prophets. Enter at your own peril!
